Our Family-Maternity Portraits: Canton Oklahoma Photo Sessions

Does anyone else find it ironic that every time I set a date for my own family’s portraits something crazy always happens to deter us? πŸ˜‚

Such was the case for our maternity session. I had a vision of doing family and maternity pictures with the Bradford pears this spring. I figured with as quickly as Oklahoma warms up (most years anyway) we were looking at the beginning of March, which would put me at 30 weeks (which is when I had maternity pictures taken with William as well).Β

Well March rolled around, and spring was no where in sight. So I waited, and waited, and finally the trees bloomed- on a super hectic week that we had lots going on.Β

So I talked to George and we found an evening that we could make work that the weather was supposed to be nice, and set a back up date just in case. And then it was rainy and cold…both days!

I woke up last Saturday morning determined that we would have to do it that day since the blooms had started to fall and wouldn’t be around much longer. And, wouldn’t you know, it was freezing and super windy.Β

I resigned myself to the fact that I was probably just going to have to give up my dream of family photos with the gorgeous blossoms, and settle for something else later when things greened up a bit (and cross my fingers that this little man didn’t make an early appearance since I’m almost 34 weeks at this point!).Β

But, thankfully, Saturday evening around 5:30 the sun came out and the wind died down. We already had plans for later in the evening, so we made a mad dash to get ready, and George went and picked up my younger sister to help take the pictures.Β

By the time we made it to the location it was 6:45 and we only had 15 minutes to get everything we needed and hop back in the car to head off to the movies for my sisters birthday.Β

Of course by this point it had also cooled down quite a bit and the wind decided to pick back up. I knew we were going to have to moveΒ fast because my little guy was going to be cold!Β

I quickly got out and got everything all set up, found the best light, got all the settings just right, and then handed the camera over to my sister (shout out to her for all the help! She turned 11 on Monday and she’s developed an interest in photography. I have been slowly teaching her the basics and it’s so awesome to have her help me when we need a few pics done!)

We moved through groupings in record time, and were back in the car on our way to the theater by 6:55!Β

I was so nervous looking through the images in the car on the way, but I have to say I’m pretty pleased with what we managed to capture in such a short time!

Shout out to my little man and husband for braving the cold for a few minutes and letting me capture the images I was dreaming of. I’m sure blessed to have you two!
